Now that we have seen predictions that the housing market is on the upswing, let’s take a closer look at those average home buyers who are entering the new equation. What is exactly on their wish list for 2013?
NUMBER 1: ENERGY EFFICIENCY
According to a new study released by the National Association of Home Builders titled, “What Home Buyers Really Want” (click here for the article) four of the top-ranked home features involve saving energy. Energy-Star rated appliances, windows, and ceiling were must haves according to the survey.
NUMBER 2: SIMPLICITY
After a tough few years of a recession, Americans are living with less and doing just fine. When asked whether they want ornate rooms in their homes, the answer was “Simple” – simple kitchens and simple cabinetry. Simpler lives equate to simpler kitchens.
NUMBER 3: OUTDOOR LIVING SPACE
More homeowners are looking for outdoor comforts, as evidenced by the 2012 American Institute of Architects (AIA) survey. Two-thirds of AIA survey respondents indicated that their desire for outdoor living spaces increased and have added fire-pits or barbeque areas to their wish lists.
NUMBER 4: HIGH-END FINISHES
Although buyers are looking for more simple and clean lines, that does not mean they do not want high quality. Features like double sinks, soaking tubs instead of shower stalls and granite, quartz and other engineered stone counter tops are leaders on the list.
No matter what is on their list, 2013 is shaping up to be a strong year for the real-estate market. We encourage anyone who has been hesitant about buying or selling, to strongly consider his or her options. There are plenty of excellent properties out there just waiting to be made a home!
